September BaseCamp
The BaseCamp concept has proven very successful over the years. One month of hard training with access to some of the worlds best Laser coaches and sailors. We can also be flexible to help fit in with your study/work schedule by letting you join the BaseCamp programme for any one, two or three weeks of the training!
We run the BaseCamp from our Torbole SailBase because of its constant winds, makes it possible to go sailing nearly every day. Lake Garda has two main wind patterns the Pelér and the Ora... the Pelér wind that blows from north to south early in the morning to around noon. The Ora wind, which blows from south to north from late morning to late in the afternoon, this steady breeze is the driving force behind the SailCoach training camps.
So what does it involve?
BaseCamp involves sailors staying mostly for one month at a time at our Lake Garda SailBase and taking part in all our clinics and training camps during that period. The beauty of BaseCamp is that sailors get to experience and practice in every type of sailing condition as the weather varies throughout the month.
Also, athletes can get into the routine of a true Laser professional, involving sailing, biking and weight training schedules. We plan to have a fitness trainer and a dietician as part of this BaseCamp, so they will be on hand to help assist you with weight gain/loss or general fitness.
In this BaseCamp we have the opportunity to sail in the Italian Olympic Classes Nationals (CICO) from the 22nd to the 25th September 2011 on Lake Garda.
Often athletes make the biggest improvements in performance during BaseCamp sessions as the athlete get to work with a coach for a prolonged period of time and therefore perfect specific techniques. Most commonly, athletes have the opportunity to make huge gains in their fitness or address body weight issues, thanks to having a considerable and consistent time frame to achieve such goals.
Another major bonus of the BaseCamp programme is that athletes become members of the SailCoach ‘family’. Friendships are formed with training partners and coaches as the SailCoach team live together allowing for a great mixture of cultures. These friendships and cultural interactions can be important for the development of individuals both in their sailing and in life experience.
Furthermore, English is the first language of the SailCoach team with all coaching and life conducted through English. This gives our BaseCamp sailors every chance to develop the language to return home with a much improved vocabulary and greater understanding.
What You Can Expect
Ten unlikely benefits of BaseCamp...! :
What the sailors say:
Anders Nyholm, DEN, Olympian, Youth Worlds Medallist
“These BaseCamp's are ideal for regular training throughout the year. Throw in the odd clinic for some intense analysis and you have a near perfect training programme”
Gareth Blankenberg, RSA, Olympian, ISAF Youth Worlds Champion
“BaseCamp gave me the opportunity to meet other training partners and coaches that weren’t available back home. The friends I met with SailCoach are lifelong and we’re still in touch today.”
